I am getting too drowsy to write any more this evening, but I would be remiss if I did not thank Senator John Kerry for following my advice and conceding his defeat today. Thanks, Senator, that was nice. I have more advice for you, but I don’t want to press my luck. Drop me a line if you’re interested, though.

Wow. Today I had to do some very tricky coding for a freelance project. I quoted it as taking one hour, so that’s all I’m going to invoice. But it took me all day.

I thought it would be easy. All I had to do was add one button to a Macromedia Flash movie. The button had to open a browser window, and send some variables to a Web page. Easy money, right? What could possibly go wrong?

Well, first, the variables had to be sent via the POST method. Second, the Flash movie was not going to play in a Web browser, but as an imported movie in a Shockwave Projector. These, I learned, were mutually exclusive premises. A Flash movie inside a Projector simply cannot send POST headers. But it had to, or else I would not earn my money, and even worse, my client would stop believing I can do impossible things.

So I made it work. It took all day, and involved a few blind alleys, but I hit upon the solution. I did what was supposed to be undoable, and now I’m feeling all happy. Combined with the good election news, I’m even feeling giddy. I’d be tempted to be proud, if I didn’t know better.

And kudos to Senator-Elect John Thune, whom I endorsed, and who beat Tom Daschle, “The Hugging Bandit,” in “the first defeat of a Senate party leader in a re-election race in more than a half century.”

I didn’t know I had so many readers in South Dakota.

There are some things I have to do first, but I’ll be posting later today with election aftermath. For now, I would like to congratulate all the winners in races across America, especially President Bush and the thousands of other winning candidates that I endorsed.

Some quick observations:

No presidential candidate had earned over 50 percent of the popular vote since 1988. Last night George Bush ended that streak, becoming the first man to win the majority vote since George Bush.

Last night Bush also earned more votes than any candidate in American history.

But John Kerry and John Edwards have vowed to lose gracelessly. I will use this opportunity to appeal to their better natures, despite the paucity of evidence that such exist. Concede, gentlemen. Concede, and earn back some of the respect you squandered. Concede, for the good of your party and your nation. Concede, and set an example for the fledgling democracies you tried to smother in their cradles. Extend your congratulations and support to the president, and tell the enemies of America they have no friends here. And please do it soon. Today would be nice.

More posts later.
