In my last post, I announced the upcoming Hillary book by Edward Klein. In that post, I referred to Mr. Klein as a quote, “bona fide liberal,” unquote.
All well and good, until the commenter “Simple City Doc” inquired as to my evidence for that assertion. The thing is, I didn’t have any direct evidence for that assertion. I was simply parroting what I had read on second-hand sources, like Drudge, NewsMax, and some others, who describe Klein as liberal.
Doc’s comment — and my own high journalistic standards — prompted me to conduct a thorough online search for any evidence that Klein is in fact liberal. His curriculum vitae sure looks like that of a liberal (Vanity Fair writer, New York Times editor, close friend of Kennedys, etc.), but is not proof positive of liberality. I checked the FEC’s online database of political donors, and Parade magazine’s archive of articles, but I found nothing to indicate Klein’s political sympathies at all. I came up bone dry.
So I called him at his home, at around 5:50 p.m. New York time tonight.
THE EXCLUSIVE GLEESON ED KLEIN INTERVIEW:
EDWARD KLEIN: Ed Klein.
SEAN GLEESON: Ah, Mr. Klein?
KLEIN: Yes?
SEAN: Hi. My name is Sean Gleeson. I’m a blogger, and I’m writing about you. Listen, I hate to bug you at home, but Matt Drudge called you a ‘liberal,’ and I just want to know if you’re really a liberal. Would you describe yourself as liberal?
