Are you a DreamHost hosting customer, looking for the DreamHost phone number? Terrific! I am writing this post, titled “DreamHost Phone Number,” for one reason only. That reason is to make this post (”DreamHost Phone Number”) the very top result for searches for the phrase “dreamhost phone number.” I’m almost certain that I can’t help you much. But please, bear with me; I have a very good reason for needing to do this.

DreamHost Phone Number

You see, it just so happens that for some weird reason I sort of already am the top search result for the phrase “DreamHost Phone Number.” If you search for that phrase in Google, you’ll see the top result is the “Whois.us Query Results” information page for the Gleeson.us domain.

The word “phone” appears on that page four times, the word “number” five times, and the word “DreamHost” appears there six times. So I reckon it’s only logical that that page should score high for searches for “DreamHost phone number.”

The only problem with that is, I’m getting more and more phone calls from folks who think I am DreamHost! People are dialing my phone number, at all hours, with questions about their DreamHost bill, or wanting DreamHost technical support. One guy left me an angry message. I’ve got to bump that page off that number one spot somehow, before someone starts a fight.

So this post is for all you DreamHost customers, searching in vain for a DreamHost phone number. I hate to break this to you, but I don’t think there is one! According to the DreamHost knowledgebase:

We do not provide a call in number, all phone support is handled as call backs.

But, perhaps you’re wondering, doesn’t DreamHost, as a domain registrar, have to provide a phone number to InterNIC? Yup, they do. That’s the law. And they did that. It’s (213) 947-1032. That there’s a real, honest-to-gosh DreamHost phone number, that is.

But there’s no law that says they have to answer that phone number, and I don’t think they do. I tried it just to test it, and got a recording. If you’re gonna call it to get some tech support, let me know how that works out for you. (I mean let me know in the comments here on the blog. There’s no need to call me.)

They also have a fax number. It’s (714) 990-2600. But they say it must “not be used for technical or customer support. It is not monitored by [sic] and should only be used when we ask you to fax something to us.”

So if you need to get ahold of DreamHost, I suggest using the methods outlined in their “Contacting Us” page, and give up trying to phone them.

And you bloggers and friends, you could really help me — and the world at large — by linking to this post, especially if you use the words “DreamHost phone number” in your link text. For instance, you could write, “Sean says the DreamHost phone number is a chimera.” That would help the soulless robots at Google know that this post is a very important message about the DreamHost phone number. Thanks.

You sure ICANN is law? I know they could lose their accreditation if they didn’t provide a phone number, but I don’t think it’s actually a law anywhere…?

  5. Comment by Sean — Thu 23 Mar 2006 @ 9:53 am

I dunno. ICANN is not a governmental body, but it is contracted by the government, to act exclusively on the government’s behalf. The specific regulations of ICANN may not have the force of law, but the U.S. Dept. of Commerce says that all domain registrars must be accredited by ICANN, and that certainly is the law, so I figured that calling ICANN accreditation “the law” is close enough for government work.

First, I have to say I’m very happy with DreamHost with the exception that they are not responsive in a timely matter. They do have a very high
“features to support call back ratio”. That is, they give you an awful lot for not very much, but don’t ask too much in terms of support or prompt problem resolution. If they offered good phone support at 3x the price, I’d pay it and I know many others that would also.

Dreamhost is the worst companie I have ever worked with. They took funds from my account numerus times without autherization and they have yet to transer my domain though I have written them over 10 times regarding this. If you wont slow, horrible support, your money to be taken without consent, to be treated with disrespect and have no way to contact you hosting company go with dreamhost where your dreams of good service get crushed. Dreamhost doesn’t even offer a phone number to reach support. DreamHost phone number is a myth it might exist but you will never hear from them.

Dreamhost phone support sounds to be good to be true and it is. Rid yourself of this horrible company.

Unbelievably bad service here. One issue after another after another. They do not have phone support for a very big reason ….. it would be used continuously by persons like myself who are losing business because of the lack of replies via email. I am curious though how their website is always operational, and selling more hosting, when their clients web spaces and hosting packages are not working properly?

    Hmmmmm ………

    Richard–

You’re not alone! I run a paysite and Dreamhost is my hosting company and my site has been up and down for the past few days and today it’s been down ALL day. They don’t reply to emails and I’ve already signed up with a new hosting company yesterday. I’m in the (LONG) process of transfering all my files over right now.

You get what you pay for. Dreamhost is cheap and offers great deals on web hosting, but you get absolutely NO customer service. This problem has been going on for 2 weeks now!

So, I take it this thread wouldn’t be the best place to put my DreamHost Rewards link?

  13. Comment by Gerard — Thu 21 Sep 2006 @ 10:00 am

Dreamhost support is laughable. They have more down time than any host I know. If you haven’t already signed with them, my advice is don’t!

  14. […] There a couple reasons why this ticks me off. The first is that I recommended DreamHost to Andy, I told him that aside from some email issues in September 2005, everything was great. I also recommended DreamHost to Jeremiah Owyang and now he’s not too found of DreamHost either (he’s even asked them to respond to Andy). So, basically, thanks to the DreamHost jerks, I’ve lost some credibility. The other reason is that DreamHost is always quick to ask for a second chance time and time again when things go wrong, yet they don’t even give a customer the respect of a full response or explanation, let alone a second chance. Nor do they even provide a phone number, just a voicemail which they pick the best messages off of to post on their blog to laugh at. […]

yeah well someone got my creditcard number from them and charged thousands of dollars….you think I hear anything from dreamhost?? NO! where is the “wonderfull” support now. Oh yeah. the emails everyone talks about…are inaccurate to say the best.

  16. Comment by Sean — Tue 3 Oct 2006 @ 7:07 pm

Wow. Do you have the details of this crime posted somewhere? How did someone get your credit card number from DreamHost?

  17. Comment by Ted — Tue 3 Oct 2006 @ 10:18 pm

Pardon the rude language but [profanity] DREAMHOST. Please, anyone out there, I urge you not to use this horrible company. They will mess up your website, claim it’s not their fault, and then not offer anything in the way of customer support. They are awful, horrible people whose only way of making money (since they’re not competent enough to get big clients) is to rip of the little guys.

the worst company ever. I’m moving!

I love you for providing me with Dreamhost’s number. I hate dreamhost. Their sh*t goes down *all the time* and then I can’t email them. So I try to visit their “support panel” and it won’t load. I can’t tell you how much I wish I had never, ever, EVER heard of them.

Sounds like Dreamhost is more of a nightmare.

All of this sounds really funny. And, the funniest thing is that I have only 3 days as a DH customer and I´ve arrived here looking for the DH phone number due to lack of support.

Sean, I recommend you to make an association with one strong hosting provider and to put the Ad here. As fas as I have see, your are going to make big money.

    Gustavo
