
What is an “X21″? Answer correctly, and you’ll be the proud owner of a new suit of jammies. “X21″ is what the pundits at Pajamas Media are calling anyone who does not identify with the label “liberal” or “conservative.” Thankfully, it’s a temporary name.
The P.J. people are the first to admit that “X21″ is hardly descriptive. As they explain in their “X21 Central” blog, the “21″ merely refers to the 21st question on a poll they conducted last year, in which 43% of the respondents claimed to be neither liberal nor conservative politically. On Sept. 26, the very first pair of official Pajamas Media logo-emblazoned pajamas will go to him who coins an apposite label for this sizable contingent of the electorate.
But, is there one? Can there be one word that really describes all the people who, for whatever reason, do not see themselves as fitting into either ideology? Let’s explore this idea.
