“Admit we are tolerant, or we’ll kill you,” is not a credible argument, even if it’s a credible threat. From LGF:

Iraq’s Mujahedeen Army has posted a message on the internet threatening Pope Benedict XVI with a suicide attack.

The Pope is scheduled to give a public statement tomorrow. Will he cave in to the enormous pressure from radical Islam and its Western enablers, and issue a personal apology—for remarks that have been taken outrageously out of context?

A short while ago, the Vatican was worried that offending Muslims might result in persecution of Christians in Islamic countries. But now, they worry that offending Muslims will result in an attack on the Vatican itself! Maybe it’s time to rethink this strategy of appeasement. Maybe it’s time to “preach ye upon the housetops,” without worrying so much about annoying any murderers who might overhear. “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Please pray for Pope Benedict’s resolve, as well as for his safety. For the good of the Church, I do not want to see the pope attain the crown of martyrdom, though I know it is a possibility. Even less do I want to see the pope beg for pardon from barbarian thugs for speaking the plain truth. I trust his holiness to stand his ground.
